The War on Cancer battle report:
Last week I found myself broadcasting live @ Portage Place Edmonton Court (where the time is always 11:58... according to big clock tower) Q-94 and our sister Station 99.9 BOB FM kicked off the 1st annual First Flower of Hope - in FULL support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
We had a 2 story giant plastic daffodil and thru the course of the week - we had to fill it with yellow 'Bud Balls' @ 5 bucks a pop. The brainchild of CHUM Radio’s Chris Brooke. (above with me on the right)So it was kinda like our Christmas Miracle - only fighting Cancer.

I had the chance to talk and more importantly learn/inform all about Cancer from all kinds of great people who volunteer or work for the Canadian Cancer Society. These people know their stuff big time! I talked to a Doctor/Professor/the smartest guy I've ever met period - and asked him point blank: "So Doc... how long till we REALLY beat this thing?" He paused - and you could see the wheels in his massive brain turning..."about 20 years for sure, then yep we'll have gotten it all." Trust me if you heard the interview or know this guy you'd believe him too! I also got to meet all kinds of brave people and children who have kicked the hell out of Cancer and now help the CCS. True heroes. Positive people who were all against the odds of living but said NO WAY. I wish everyone could have met them.

It was a wonderful inspiriting week and it was an honour to be apart of the 1st of many (well hopefully not to many more) First Flower of Hope. We beat our goal - filled the daffodil and made a huge smoking dent into Cancer. Thanks to all who donated and came down or called me up.

Revenge of the Past
Ahh the fuzzy memories of a time not so long ago. Good thing for videotape! One of my best friends Donovan Yaciuk was digging thru his VHS/BetaMax archive today and found something that should have been destroyed on site. A film starring some of Winnipeg's most creative talents today... Cabin Massacre III (there was no part I or II... we just liked the idea of a lazy trilogy) Starring in alphabetical order:

Big Marv Timog(Hot 103/QX104)
Cherie Menzies (Q-94 FM/99.9 BOB FM/1290 CFRW)
Darcy Taves (Q-94 FM)
Donovan Yaciuk (Comic Book artist for DC/Marvel/Dark Horse)
Troy Scott (Q-94 FM)

While the filming location of this 'movie' will forever remain a secret, the plot is pretty common of all the "who done it" types:
I played Lance Thorpe the 3rd - a clueless super rich drunk who takes his pal Wang Chung (Big Marv - heir to the Chung computer empire oh and he has a robotic hand that plays music - for no reason whatsoever) and his extremely promiscuous girlfriend Tyler (Cherie) out to ONE of his father's haunted cabins. On the way the group stops at a local bar and meets Clint Clant (Donovan) a country singer who wants to become a hip-hop sensation and has the platinum blonde hair to prove it. The group also picks up a mysterious stranger (Darcy) who periodically changes his name and carries a loaded handgun. Long story short - we all get killed - save one. I don't want to ruin the ending for you... mostly because I can't remember it. However if it shows up online - BE WARNED. It's WORSE than the Star Wars Holiday Special. Sigh... I'm glad the casting people at Falcon Beach didn't see this.

Troy Scott VS Canadian Idol
Well the Canadian Idol Auditions took place over the weekend at Portage Place... and I was there too (in neutral gang colors) however the real show wasn't seen at all. Last Friday, the Idol crew staged something called "Media Idol" @ CKY/CTV Studios in Polo Park - all media outlets were invited down to 'experience what Idol hopeful goes thru" in front of the Judges and everything! Now I'm no singer. In fact NO ONE in the media is a good singer. However in the spirit of charity I took a shot at it. Now... what to sing... Well it came to me pretty easy. The Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers theme song! (plus it was the only song I knew all the words to... well okay maybe not...Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, OKAY any song from the Disney Afternoon was up for singing) I belted it out and got a ton of laughs from everyone (thank god) and then got a bit of a blast from Simon...err Zack - yeah that's it: "I really want to thank you for being so annoying, " he told me after I had a comedic style but no way could I sing. I agreed. But MAN did it feel great singing that SONG! Thanks to everyone who came out to Portage Place and told me they liked my choice of toon too! Heh. Tune...Toon...

In the end SHAW TV took the Media Idol crown and by crown I mean a over sized novelty $1000 cheque from CTV. The one thing I was surprised by was - how many of the other media people took it so seriously! One girl from 100.7 FM froze completely and almost ran for it... she should have - now that would have been funny.

You can check out the mini summary on CTV's Idol website by clicking here.

I also got a chance to interview Mr. Orange himself - Ben Mulroney. He told me his tan was from L.A. I was thinking more like San Fran's Golden Gate Bridge... He's the SAME COLOR!!! If you didn't hear it on Q my interview with Ben will be on Speakfreewithjb.com soon.
